Unattended Candle Causes Flat Fire

20/08/2012

An unattended candle sparked a severe bedroom fire in a ground floor flat on Maple Close in Norton Green this morning.

A call was received at just before 5.50am this morning reporting the fire and it was unclear if the occupants of the affected flat were still inside.

Crews from Sandyford, Burslem and Biddulph were sent to the scene and on arrival quickly established the occupants had safely made their way out.

The fire broke out in the bedroom and started after a candle had been left burning unattended. Significant damage has been caused to the bedroom.

Anyone using candles is reminded never to leave them burning unattended and to ensure they are in a suitable candle holder on an appropriate surface.

Crews left the scene at 8.38am.
