Brewood Firefighters Represent Staffordshire

21/08/2012

A team of firefighters from Brewood Fire Station will be representing Staffordshire this Thursday at a road traffic collision extrication competition.

“We are very honoured and privileged to be representing Staffordshire at the finals, the team have been training in their own time to enhance there skills over the past weeks and are looking forward to the challenge of the competition.”

Brewood Watch Manager, Paul Danby.

The National Extrication Challenge will be held in Lincoln.

Brewood firefighters made it through to the finals following their victory at the initial stages of the competition earlier this year.

The competition is an annual event that gives firefighters the opportunity to demonstrate and practise their skills.

The firefighters will be judged on their professionalism in releasing trapped casualties from vehicles within a 20 minute time frame during day one and if successful going through to the second day where they will have to release two casualties within 30 minutes.

Each team will be given a different car crash scenario and “trained” casualties will act out injuries which the firefighters will have to take into consideration during the extrication.

Brewood Watch Manager Paul Danby said: “We are very honoured and privileged to be representing Staffordshire at the finals, the team have been training in their own time to enhance there skills over the past weeks and are looking forward to the challenge of the competition.”
