Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Service’s Response to Inaccurate Newspaper Reports

Contrary to recent reports in the media, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is not looking to 'axe' firefighters through a new voluntary redundancy policy.

"Here at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service we are committed to firefighter safety, community safety and protecting as many livelihoods as possible."

Director of Response, Julian Hilditch

A new voluntary redundancy policy is due to be discussed in an upcoming meeting, to be attended by fire authority members, however the policy only applies to support and control staff, not firefighters. The Service already has in existence a reorganisation, redeployment and redundancy policy and this document is a natural step to support that policy.

Director of Response, Julian Hilditch said: "The voluntary redundancy policy provides non-operational staff who may wish to retire early or leave the Service, the opportunity to do so providing this does not affect the Service’s ability to support its core functions. The policy does not apply to firefighters.
