Over 40 firefighters spent the afternoon and into the evening tackling a severe field fire at Himley Hall in Himley yesterday.
A call was received at 4.05pm reporting the blaze, involving straw stubble, so crews from Wombourne, Kinver and two from a neighbouring fire service were initially sent.
On arrival, firefighters were met with a severe blaze which was rapidly spreading due to windy conditions, so further appliances from Codsall, Cannock, Gnosall and Stone were sent for, including three specialist appliances – the UNIMOG, Water Carrier and Control Unit.
Firefighters battled the flames for hours, using main and hose reel jets, beaters and compressed air foam to tackle the blaze, which took around four hours to bring under control.
They left the scene at 8.45pm last night. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding how the fire started are ongoing; anyone with any information can contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 541 of Sept 9.
Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
