Anthony E. Goodwin will unveil a plaque at the community fire station on Lichfield Street at 7pm next Tuesday evening and will then be taken on a tour of the building.

The retained firefighters who respond from the station will also be attending with their families.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Peter Dartford said: "Tamworth Mercia is the final community fire station in the first PFI project to open. We are extremely proud of the new station and more importantly what it means to the communities we serve.

"It’s wonderful that the local community has embraced the station, the number of people using the facilities has already exceeded our expectations."

Anthony E. Goodwin said: "I was both honoured and humbled in equal measure when I received the invitation to officially open the Tamworth Mercia Fire Station.

"Each and every time I visit facilities like this or meet the people who work in them, I have nothing but admiration for the service and for the men and women who, on a daily basis and on our behalf, volunteer to put themselves at risk.

"Making Tamworth a safer and more confident community has long been a priority, not just for the Council, but for our partners. The fire service, police, County Council and voluntary sector have worked together for more than a decade and have achieved incredible results.

"Facilities like this will help sustain that success by providing a safe place for communities to come together. A well trained, well led and well-resourced service is something we can all be proud of and Tamworth Mercia Fire Station will have a role to play in building on that pride."

The station, which went live in November, was the tenth new community fire station to open across Staffordshire. The fire station comes complete with state of the art facilities, including a dedicated community room which has been used almost 130 times since opening for use in November.

Bookings can be taken for the community room at Tamworth Mercia which seats up to 18 people and are available from 9am – 10pm weekdays and from 9am – 5pm at weekends. Community and partner groups interested in booking the free facilities should ring 01785 898781.
