Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Join in the Push the Button Fun!

Brewood residents are invited to join Brewood firefighters for a day of fun at various locations on Push the Button day next Friday October 19.

“Brewood firefighters will be handing out Push the Button literature and freebies as well as asking people to sign up to the Push the Button pledge. The pledge is a weekly reminder which will be emailed out and anyone who signs up will be entered into a prize draw to win a pass for four people for Alton Towers.”

Station Manager, Neil Pedersen.

The firefighters will be at Brewood British Legion Club from 9am – 11.30am, Dobbies Garden Centre from 12noon – 2.30pm and Brewood Hollybush Garden Centre from 3pm – 5pm promoting the Push the Button campaign.

The campaign is driven by the fact that although 9 out of 10 homes in Staffordshire now have smoke alarms fitted, 7 out of 10 do not test them regularly.

Station Manager, Neil Pedersen said: “Brewood firefighters will be handing out Push the Button literature and freebies as well as asking people to sign up to the Push the Button pledge. The pledge is a weekly reminder which will be emailed out and anyone who signs up will be entered into a prize draw to win a pass for four people for Alton Towers.”

“Over the last three years, house fires where no smoke alarms were fitted have decreased by 73%. However, despite the rise in smoke alarm ownership nearly a quarter of accidental fires occurred in houses where smoke alarms didn’t activate because the batteries had gone flat or had been removed.

“A smoke alarm which doesn’t work may as well not be there so it’s really important that everyone takes just a few seconds to Push the Button each week.”
