Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is hoping the county will be set bleeping tomorrow night as they urge people to take part in a synchronised smoke alarm testing event.

"We want Staffordshire to be the safest place to be and maybe on Friday 19 October it will be if everyone carries out that quick test.”

Head of Risk Reduction, Glynn Luznyj

The Service is celebrating its Push the Button day tomorrow and is encouraging residents to test their smoke alarms at 7pm. The day is part of the Service’s Push the Button campaign which urges people to test their smoke alarms on a weekly basis.

Firefighters will be at locations across the county tomorrow promoting the campaign and asking people to take part in the synchronised smoke alarm testing event at 7pm. People are then asked to report their successful testing on the Service’s social media pages.

Head of Risk Reduction, Glynn Luznyj said: “A smoke alarm that doesn’t work is absolutely no use and in the past three years we’ve been to over 400 house fires when smoke alarms were fitted but didn’t work because the batteries had gone flat or had been removed. That quick test at 7pm could just save the lives of you and your family. We want Staffordshire to be the safest place to be and maybe on Friday 19 October it will be if everyone carries out that quick test.”

People without smoke alarms or alarms that don’t work are asked to contact Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for a free Home Fire Risk Check which includes the fitting of free smoke alarms. To book a free Home Fire Risk Check contact: 0800 0241 999.
