A lifeline monitoring service alerted Fire Control to the incident at 5.36am this morning, saying they could hear the woman coughing but were unable to communicate with her.
Crews from Biddulph and Sandyford were sent to the scene where they rescued the woman.
Firefighters administered oxygen therapy to the woman before she was taken to hospital.
Station Manager, Mark Wilson said: “The fire was in the living room and firefighters found the woman on the floor. One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire which is now under investigation to establish how it started.”
The woman has been taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham and fire investigators will be on scene this morning to establish the cause of the fire.
