Barn Fire in Mavesyn Ridware

08/09/2009

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident on Church Lane, Mavesyn Ridware near Rugeley at 3.50am in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident involved two Dutch barns, approximately 15 x 30 metres containing baled straw, which were both well alight.

Initially crews from Abbots Bromley, Rugeley, Lichfield, Barton under Needwood and Cannock attended the incident, and relief crews from Stafford, Rugeley and Chase Terrace were later sent to the incident.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and one main jet to tackle the fire and also rescued 10 pot-bellied pigs from the incident. An acetylene cylinder, which was found inside of the barns, meant that crews had to remain at the incident until approximately 8am this morning where they used a cooling jet to cool down the cylinders.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is currently under investigation.
