Staffordshire’s Ceremonial Squad go to Ypres

07/11/2012

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Ceremonial Squad will be travelling to Ypres in Belgium, where they will be taking part in remembrance parades throughout the week.

"It is an honourable task to perform and is a unique and humbling experience for our Ceremonial Squad to march through the Menin Gate to honour those six million sent off to fight never to return to their loved ones."

Director Dean Stevens

Director Dean Stevens and Fire and Rescue Authority Chairman Cllr Len Bloomer, will accompany other representatives from Staffordshire in joining fire services from across the UK to take part in the ceremonial squad march through the Menin Gate on Sunday 11 November.

Dean Stevens said: "The Ceremonial Squad is now in its 22nd year and 11 members will be taking part in the parade on November 11th. We shall all be wearing our poppies as a sign of remembrance - this is the very least that those of us who have been asked to risk our lives can offer those who did not have a choice.
