Retained Firefighter’s are a crucial part of the Fire Service - they provide an efficient and effective emergency service to the community of Staffordshire.
Retained Firefighter’s provide emergency response cover from either their home or work base, which needs to be within five minutes of their local station. After their initial training course, retained Firefighter’s attend weekly drill nights to ensure they maintain their skills, in addition to which there are many more opportunities for training throughout the year. As well as responding to emergencies, retained Firefighter’s can also get involved in community fire safety initiatives in their local area, including home fire risk checks and school visits.
In order to become a retained Firefighter you must:
We have information showing the time and date of each station’s drill night.
The service can be flexible around your current working arrangements
Many Retained Firefighters fit in their Fire Service duties around their main employment. Others have an agreement with their employer which enables them to leave work should they be alerted to attend an incident. The Retained Duty System also appeals to unemployed people.
As a Retained Firefighter you will play a full and valuable role in Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and you can expect the same respect from the community and have the same job satisfaction as full time Firefighter’s.
If you do live or work within five minutes of a local station and are interested, or would just like to find out more, please contact your local Service Delivery Group Retained Support Officer, (their contact details are below), and they will be able to provide you with further details without any obligation.
We are recruiting for Retained Firefighter’s, with campaigns running throughout the year.
