Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Firefighters make friends with charity!

Lichfield firefighters have formed a new partnership with a local charity to help raise funds as well as the profile of the community group.

"We are very pleased to be working with this local charity, and plan on holding several fundraising events throughout the year."

James Hettihewa-Young, Community Safety Officer

Friends 2 Friends supports adults with learning disabilities and its members are encouraged to make their own decisions about their social activities, fundraising events and all aspects of running their group.

Members of the group will be visiting Lichfield fire station over three dates and will also receive free home fire risk checks.

Alison Wellon, F2F Co-ordinator, said: "This exciting joint initiative, a first for Friends 2 Friends, will improve our customer skills, provide valuable new insights, extend their working knowledge of the wider community and raise the profile of our work.

"We are extremely grateful to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in offering us this opportunity and we look forward to the implementation of the joint programme."

James Hettihewa-Young, Community Safety Officer and a firefighter based at Lichfield, said: "We are very pleased to be working with this local charity, and plan on holding several fundraising events throughout the year.

"The money raised will be split between the Fire Fighters Charity and Friends 2 Friends."

Friends 2 Friends are looking for volunteers and anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact Alison Wellon on 07800 576 645.
