Three members of the public will be awarded with a certificate of commendation at a presentation evening tomorrow for their brave actions at a house fire last year.
"There is no doubt that the outcome of this incident could have been far worse if it had not been for the actions of these three brave individuals."
Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford
On 6th August 2012 a call was received reporting a fire at a property on Hockley Road in Wilencote.
Fire and rescue crews from Tamworth Belgrave and Mercia stations attended the incident which involved a fire in a downstairs kitchen.
An activating smoke alarm alerted three ladies who were working in the property next door to the fire. They immediately rushed round to find a heavily smoke logged kitchen and an elderly male lying on the floor.
The ladies phoned 999 before entering the property to try and help the casualty.
Keeping low to avoid the dense smoke they dragged the casualty outside to fresh air.
His life was seriously at risk due to him being on his own. The three ladies contributed to saving his life.
Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford, who will present the certificates said: "The actions of Emma, Laura and Anna were truly exemplary and went well beyond the expectations of members of the public.
"There is no doubt that the outcome of this incident could have been far worse if it had not been for the actions of these three brave individuals. I am delighted to be able to recognise what they did and pay tribute to them"
The people receiving the commendations are as follows
Emma Poole, Laura Bell and Anna Wall.
