Student Firefighter Passing Out Parade

Two groups of student firefighters will be awarded for successfully completing their courses at a Celebration of Success event to be held at Lichfield Fire Station tomorrow afternoon, May 21.

“The student firefighter course has been a fantastic experience which has brought out the best in the students involved." Hannah Bond, Student Firefighter Co-ordinator.

The Year 8 and Year 9 students celebrating their success are from various schools in Lichfield and Chase Area. They will carry out a demonstration of the practical skills they have learnt during the course to their family, teachers and to the Mayor of Lichfield.

A total of 22 students attended courses once a week for six weeks at Lichfield Fire Station where they have learnt training and squad drills, road traffic collision extrication procedures, hose running and pumping, first aid and fire safety in the home.

Student Firefighter Co-ordinator Hannah Bond said: “The student firefighter course has been a fantastic experience which has brought out the best in the students involved.

“Not only have they learnt new practical skills but they have also learnt life skills such as communication and teamwork. All students have really enjoyed their time with us on station and we are really proud of their achievements.

“The number of students on the Passing Out Parade is larger than usual because the spring Celebration of Success was cancelled due to snowfall and those students are now included in this summer one.”
