Fridge-Freezer Fire at Weston Coyney

Two fire crews from Longton and one crew from Hanley, were called to a fire at a house in Fitzgerald Close, Weston Coyney at about 8pm last night.

A fridge freezer in the kitchen had caught fire and a male occupier suffered smoke inhalation attempting to extinguish the fire. He was taken to North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

Station Manager David Agu said: “Damage was minimal although much of the property was smoke-logged. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a portable fan unit to quickly disperse smoke and we helped clean up. We also removed the fridge freezer from the property.”

He added that the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical fault in the appliance.

Firefighters left the scene shortly before 9pm.
