Takeaway Fire at Bucknall

Firefighters were called to a fire in takeaway premises in Ruxley Road, Bucknall at 15.48 today.


“The fire severely damaged the kitchen and the rest of property, including upstairs living accommodation, is badly affected by smoke.” 

Station Manager Mark Walchester.

Crews from Hanley, Longton and Newcastle attended and six firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the fire using two hose reel jets. The fire was in a ground floor kitchen of the terraced property. 

Station Manager Mark Walchester said: “The owners were preparing food for evening business using a wok on a hob. They were distracted by a telephone call and during that time the pan ignited and fire spread to the kitchen.

“The fire severely damaged the kitchen and the rest of property, including upstairs living accommodation badly affected by smoke.” 

“We would urge people to always be vigilant when cooking and never to leave pans unattended.” 

No one was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire was accidental.
