03/09/2013

An award-winning apprentice at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been shortlisted for a regional accolade.

"I am really pleased to have reached the finals of the regional round of the Apprenticeship Awards 2013. I have been told that the competition was extremely tough this year so I feel that to get to this stage is an achievement in itself."

Apprentice James Russell

James Russell has reached the Apprenticeship Awards 2013 North West finals which will take place in the NOMA Building, Manchester, on September 11.

The 21-year-old, who works in the Business Intelligence team, has already scooped two titles so far this year.

He won an Individual Apprenticeship Award in business administration at Stoke-on-Trent College’s Celebrating Success Awards.

He was also honoured at the Service’s internal More Awards when he received the Young Person of the Year Award.

James will now go head to head against his contemporaries from Staffordshire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester at the ceremony which is being hosted by the National Apprenticeship Service.

It aims to recognise and reward the achievements of exceptional apprentices and the businesses that employ them.

James, of Stafford, said: "I am really pleased to have reached the finals of the regional round of the Apprenticeship Awards 2013. I have been told that the competition was extremely tough this year so I feel that to get to this stage is an achievement in itself.

"I have received excellent support from my colleagues since joining the Service and they have played a key role in my development, helping me to secure a full time job within the Service."
