A multi award-winning apprentice at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been ‘highly commended’ at a regional ceremony.

"I am absolutely delighted to have been highly commended in the Apprenticeship Awards 2013 – it is a real honour, particularly as I have been told the competition was extremely tough and there were thousands of entries."

Corporate Business Adviser James Russell

Thousands of apprentices from across Staffordshire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester applied in four categories of the Apprenticeship Awards 2013 North West.

James Russell scooped the title of ‘highly commended’ in the Higher Apprentice of the Year category.

The event, held at the NOMA Building, Manchester, on September 11, recognised and rewarded the achievements of exceptional apprentices and the businesses that employ them.

21-year-old James, who works in the Business Intelligence team, had already won two titles this year. He received an Individual Apprenticeship Award in business administration at Stoke-on-Trent College’s Celebrating Success Awards.

He was also honoured at the Service’s internal More Awards when he was given the Young Person of the Year Award.

James, of Stafford, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been highly commended in the Apprenticeship Awards 2013 – it is a real honour, particularly as I have been told the competition was extremely tough and there were thousands of entries.

"My colleagues have been incredibly supportive since I joined Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, encouraging me to develop my skills and rise to challenges. I believe they have played a part in helping me to achieve this award."
