Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Fire service is to give out top tips for winter safety

28/11/2013

Firefighters will be giving out top tips to help residents in Stafford stay safe now that the winter weather has arrived.

The community safety team will be visiting Rising Brook Baptist Church, Burton Square, from 11am-2pm on Wednesday, December 4 during the ‘Everyday Café’.

Visitors can benefit from free eye tests during the event and will also be able to book a Home Fire Risk Check (HFRC) to ensure their properties are as safe as possible.

During HFRCs, firefighters or technicians give people advice about fire safety and planning an escape route as well as fitting smoke alarms.

People can also call free-phone 0800 0241 999 to arrange a mutually convenient time for the visit to take place. All firefighters and service technicians carry an I.D card and travel in Service vehicles.

Although checks to the elderly and vulnerable are prioritised, the service is open to everyone.

Leaflets featuring home safety information relating specifically to the winter months will also be handed out during the event to raise awareness of potential risks involved with electrical equipment, chimneys and cooking.
