We are collecting information about the number of flood incidents attended by fire and rescue services in 2013. Below is the information we would like to obtain from you under the Freedom of Information Act. Specifically we would like to know:

  1. How many flood incidents did your fire and rescue service attend each month and in total between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013?
  2. How many fatal casualties were attributed to flood incidents each month and in total between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013?
  3. How many non-fatal casualties were attributed to flood incidents each month and in total between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013?
  4. How many people were rescued from flood incidents each month and in total between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2013?
  5. We would also appreciate any information on how flood incidents, casualties, rescues and evacuations are recorded in your fire and rescue service. Specifically we want to know what counts as one incident e.g. a basement flood, compared with 24 hours pumping out a high street. In other words, is any account taken of the scale or duration of flood incidents?

We understand that these figures are held by the fire and rescue service as part of the electronic incident recording system (IRS), which are then reported to government. Please note we would like the figures for the calendar year, not financial year.

Each call is recorded as a separate incident, for example if we receive calls from individual premises in a flood area each call would be given an incident number and dealt with accordingly on an individual basis. Where numerous calls come in for an affected area not relating to individual premises, all related calls would be allocated the same incident number and dealt with on a case by case basis.
