07/10/2009

A call was received yesterday evening at 6.18pm reporting a fire at a property on Parkway, Dairyfields in Trentham.

Fire crews from Longton and Newcastle attended the incident which involved a fire in a domestic garage 6m x 5m. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

Station Manager Rob Barber said: “Several items in the garage were damaged by the fire and smoke damage was caused to the garage.  The fire had started due to an electrical fault with a fridge freezer. Fortunately the occupant’s daughter noticed smoke coming from the roof of the garage and alerted her parents.”

Firefighters left the scene at 7.28pm. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
