Fire at Disused Building in Rugeley

07/10/2009

A call was received at 8.05am this morning reporting a fire at a disused building in Market Street in Rugeley.  The building was formally occupied by Kwik Fit.

Fire crews from Cannock and Rugeley attended the incident which involved a fire in a first floor office area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

Station Manager Carl Mason said:” Disused unsecured premises can become hot spots for rough sleepers and antisocial behaviour particularly with cold dark nights drawing in.  We would urge all business/property owners to ensure that extra security measures are put in place.”
