Factory fire at Cauldon Low

Dozens of firefighters are continuing to tackle a major blaze which broke out at a factory in Cauldon Low yesterday.

"Firefighters have been working through the night in order to bring the blaze under control and are currently still at the scene."

Crews arrived at PH Winterton and Son on Ellastone Road at 1.10pm.

At the height of the fire, a total of 11 appliances were at the scene.

The incident is thought to have started in a dust extraction unit at the single storey building.

When crews arrived, an area of the factory measuring 10 metres by 40 metres was well alight.

The fire then spread to a nearby shed. Firefighters are continuing to extinguish the blaze.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford, who attended the incident, said: "The fire broke out in a building which contained wood shavings and when the first crews arrived, it was well alight.

"Firefighters have been working through the night in order to bring the blaze under control and are currently still at the scene."
