Firefighters have spent the day tackling a fire at JBM Limited on Hixon Industrial Estate.
The emergency call for the incident was received at 9.41am and there have been approximately 40 firefighters from across the county at the incident.
The incident involves 10 tonnes of industrial metal waste that is on fire within an industrial unit. The unit has been evacuated, along with a neighbouring office block.
Station Manager Paul Richins said: “Firefighters have tackled the fire externally through some large bay doors. We have used foam and sand to create a blanket over the fire.
“We expect to remain at the fire overnight. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not believed to be suspicious.”
The Service is working with the Environment Agency in an attempt to prevent any pollution to local watercourses.
