Station Manager Carl Mason

Firefighters have been at the incident at Mr Big Deals since receiving the emergency call at 11.24pm on Sunday evening. At the height of the incident there were 64 firefighters. It took crews 24 hours to fully extinguish the fire.

Two fire crews remained at the incident overnight to ensure there was no re-ignition. At 8am fire officers met with a dangerous structures engineer to check that the building was safe for firefighters to enter to carry out their inspections.

Station Manager Carl Mason said: “The whole building has been severely damaged by smoke, heat and fire and there has been some structural damage.

“Now that we have been able to access the building, scenes of crime officers and fire investigation can look to establish the cause of the fire. Two crews will remain at the incident for the rest of the day to assist with the investigation and to ensure there are no remaining hot spots.”
