Firefighters have tackled a blaze which broke out at a block of flats in Newcastle.
Two crews from Newcastle and one from Hanley attended the incident on Water Street at 10.05pm yesterday.
The fire had started in the communal kitchen and was caused by a frying pan containing fat being left unattended on a lit gas hob. Firefighters wearing four breathing apparatus used one high pressure hose reel jet and one hose reel jet to put out the blaze.
They also used a thermal imaging camera to identify any hotspots that were still smouldering before leaving the scene at 11.17pm. People are being urged never to leave cooking unattended.
