Young people can enjoy fun and games when a popular portable sporting arena comes to Cannock Chase and Great Wyrley this summer.

"StreetStadiaTM has also had a positive impact on reducing anti-social behaviour, such as small grass and bin fires, which traditionally see an increase during the summer holiday. In the west of the county, there were 435 incidents of that nature in 2013 compared to 981 in 2011 when weather conditions were similar. We are determined to bring that figure down further."

The StreetStadiaTM is aimed at eight-17-year-olds and transforms open space into a dynamic arena where young people can take part in an assortment of free activities including football, handball, cricket, dodgeball, netball and other team building games.

The scheme is part of a series of events that the Service is running throughout the summer in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.

It forms part of the successful Flames Aren’t Games initiative which aims to discourage young people from deliberately setting grass fires.

Sarah Smith, Prevent Watch Manager for the west of the county, said: "StreetStadiaTM has proved to be very popular in recent years with hundreds of young people taking part. The activities are a great way to let off steam, make new friends and keep the boredom at bay over the six weeks. Its great news for parents too as all the events are free of charge.
