Top bosses at Staffordshire's fire and rescue service and community NHS trust are swapping jobs to understand how they can work better together to support the local community and improve their organisations.
"This is an excellent opportunity to see how another of the county’s public sector services is tackling the challenges that we currently face. Despite the fact that the fire and rescue service is a very different organisation to the NHS, we often come into contact with the same people so it is vital that we work together and learn from each other."
Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue’s Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford and Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Partnership NHS Trust’s Chief Executive Officer Stuart Poynor have handed over the reins to each other’s organisations for two days.
The job swap will see the public sector bosses take on their counterpart’s duties for two days to get a greater understanding of day to day life in the health and fire services.
Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said: "This is an excellent opportunity to see how another of the county’s public sector services is tackling the challenges that we currently face.
"Despite the fact that the fire and rescue service is a very different organisation to the NHS, we often come into contact with the same people so it is vital that we work together and learn from each other.
"This experience will give Stuart and I a much greater understanding of each other’s role, the similarities and the variants, and , therefore, the knowledge of how we can strengthen the partnership to benefit the communities we serve."
Partnership Chief Executive Stuart Poynor, who has previously 'job swapped' with Derbyshire NHS Chief Executive in September 2013, added: "Having previously swapped jobs with an NHS colleague I was keen to work with one of the Trust’s key partners, and someone who I believe I will benefit from in terms of how they lead their organisation.
"Working with Peter and the team at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue is a great opportunity to learn, share ideas and potentially make positive developments to our partnership working across Staffordshire."
Whilst at the Partnership Trust Peter Dartford will spend time touring a community hospital in Bradwell, visiting the Trust’s sexual health service and seeing how the new, enhanced clinical co-ordination telephone service, The HUB, is helping to avoid hospital admissions by proving the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
During his time at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters, Stuart Poynor will meet with the Executive Director/Deputy Chief Executive, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the fire and rescue authority as well as the Directors of Prevent and Protect, Response and People.
Stuart Poynor will learn about how the Service is tackling the financial challenges it faces while continuing to provide a first class emergency response service and carrying out vital prevention work within the communities of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
He will also spend time at Tamworth Belgrave Community Fire Station before going out in the local area to accompany the technicians as they carry out Home Fire Risk Checks.
