A family day held by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has raised more than £2,000 for a national charity.

“I would like to thank all of the organisations and our partners who attended the event and made it a real success, as well as members of the community who supported the fun day.”

Jude Russell, Internal Communications and Events Manager.

The popular biannual celebration on Saturday, September 20 attracted thousands of visitors who helped to raise the money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The organisation supports serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families when they are in need. It costs £9 million per year to run and relies solely on donations from the public.

The Service’s water rescue unit, animal rescue unit and rescue boat were showcased and people were able to meet the dogs from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Fire Service.

Firefighters demonstrated extrication techniques that are used in road traffic collisions as well as showcasing rope rescues.

Search and rescue teams were on hand along with the Casualty Simulation Group and Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership.

Over 250 children signed up to join the Welephant Club whilst adults booked their free Home Fire Risk Check visits.

Jude Russell, Internal Communications and Events Manager, said: “The Family Day was our biggest and best yet and attracted thousands of families and friends all keen to enjoy themselves and raise money for a very worthwhile cause – The Fire Fighters Charity.

“A wide range of stalls were available for people to visit and a diverse set of organisations were on hand providing entertainment and information as well as putting on demonstrations.

“I would like to thank all of the organisations and our partners who attended the event and made it a real success, as well as members of the community who supported the fun day.”
