Sixty firefighters tackle Tamworth house blaze

A total of 60 firefighters tackled a blaze at a terraced property in Tamworth during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Crews from Tamworth Belgrave, Tamworth Mercia, Rugeley, Cannock, Burton, Lichfield, Chase Terrace and Tutbury attended the fire at Medway, Belgrave.

Firefighters from Warwickshire and the West Midlands also helped to tackle the blaze which broke out just before 12.30am.

At its peak, there were 25 firefighters at the scene.

The fire spread to a neighbouring property in a row of six terraced homes, all of which had to be evacuated while the blaze was being put out.

The occupants of two houses at the end of the row were allowed to return to their homes after the fire had been extinguished.

Crews left the scene at 6.04pm on Saturday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
