Elderly Lady Dies Following A Fire At Her Home

An elderly lady has died following a fire at her home last night.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the lady who has tragically died following this fire."

The emergency call was received at 7.36pm and one crew attended the detached property on Ashbourne Road, Uttoxeter.

Eastern Service Delivery Group Lead Tim Hyde said: “Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the lady who has tragically died following this fire.

“We were alerted to the incident by the husband of the lady who returned home to find her involved in a fire in the living room. He along with a first responder managed to put out the fire but sadly she suffered serious burns.”

The lady was taken to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by West Midlands Ambulance Service, where she later died.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Firefighters and community safety officers will be in the local area in the coming days offering free Home Fire Risk Checks to local residents.
