The daring Mayor of Stone will be abseiling 60ft down the training tower at the Service’s headquarters to raise money for charity.

Mayor Cathy Collier is taking on the challenge in a bid to boost funds for the five organisations she has chosen to support during her term in office.
These include Stone District Guides and Scouts, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Stone Stroke Club and the Alzheimer’s Drop-in Centre in Stone.
The Mayor will be joined on the abseil by Assistant Town Clerk and Mayor’s Secretary Jackie Allen.
Mayor Collier said: “I feel very strongly about the charities that I have chosen to support. They all hold a special place in my heart and do a fantastic job for members of the community, both young and old alike.
“I have been trying to come up with a variety of ways to raise money for the organisations and have already done card making demonstrations, street collections and themed events which have been generously supported by the people of Stone.
“However, the abseil is going to be a real challenge for me as I am terrified of heights to it will push me to my limits. I am determined to do it though, and hope that residents will be as kind-hearted as they have been in the past.”
Head of Learning and Development Ian Housley added: “We are very happy to support such a courageous fundraising event and wish the Mayor all the best in completing the challenge she has set herself. Scaling the tower, which is used by our crews as part of their training, is no mean feat and I’m sure that many people would find it pretty frightening.”
The charity challenge will take place at 2pm on Friday, April 10 at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters.
