Fundraising firefighters will be presenting five organisations in Stoke-on-Trent with cheques totalling more than £9,000 on Monday.

"Each of the groups has a special place in our hearts and many of us have been touched by them personally so it is great to be able to give something back so that they can continue to help local people, both young and old alike. I would like to thank everyone who attended our fundraising events and local businesses for their donations."

The crew at Hanley held a whole host of events to raise the money including the popular Stokie Christmas Market, car boot sales and a Balti night at Alessi in Audley.

The money will be donated to the following groups:

•    Fire Fighters Charity - £4,000
•    Douglas MacMillan Hospice - £3,000
•    St Joseph’s PTFS (memorial bench for the reflection garden) - £1,000
•    North Staffs Carers’ Association - £1,000
•    First Basford Girl Guides - £50

Fire Safety Assistant Kelvin Chell, who led the fundraising efforts, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to present the five organisations with cheques to support the excellent work that they do for the community of Stoke-on-Trent.
