A group of young people are celebrating after successfully completing a Prince’s Trust course, run by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"The young people have worked incredibly hard during their time on the course and have developed skills in a variety of areas. Their confidence has definitely improved over the 12 weeks and they have gained a whole host of experience that will help them to have a successful future."

The group of 13 young people, aged between 16 and 25 have achieved The Prince’s Trust Certificate after taking part in the charity’s ‘Team’ programme.

The participants were presented with their awards by Director of Prevent and Protect Dean Stevens and ‘Team’ Programme Executive Jayne Rickus during a ceremony at Stafford College.

The 12-week Team programme helps unemployed young people gain the skills and confidence they need to get into work or training.

During the course the participants have completed a residential programme, two fundraising challenges, a community project, a two week work placement programme and a team challenge.

The group has also completed an additional qualification, Certificate in Supporting Employability and Personal Effectiveness, and received free driving lessons from the Service. Some participants completed their theory test as part of the course.

Safer Communities CIC in partnership with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with The Prince’s Trust to launch the charity’s Team programme, which has been supported by Stafford College.

Joyce Underwood, Team Leader, said: "The young people have worked incredibly hard during their time on the course and have developed skills in a variety of areas. Their confidence has definitely improved over the 12 weeks and they have gained a whole host of experience that will help them to have a successful future.

"The young people are now well equipped to build upon what they have learned whether they choose to take their first steps on the career ladder or continue with training. We are very proud of them and wish them well."

The next Prince’s Trust course starts on June 1st. For more information email princes.trust@staffordshirefire.gov.uk or ring or text Joyce Underwood on:  07971 89353. Further information is also available online at http://www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk/princes-trust.asp
