Building Dementia Friendly Communities

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is working to help Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire to become a dementia friendly community.

A dementia-friendly community is a city, town or village where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported and confident they can contribute to community life.

Five things you need to know about dementia:

  • Dementia is not a natural part of the ageing process
  • Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain
  • It is not just about losing your memory
  • It's possible to live well with it
  • There is more to the person than the dementia

If you are concerned that a friend, relative or neighbour may have dementia book a FREE Home Fire Risk Check for them. They might prefer it if you are there when we come for the appointment.

Further information on dementia and how to become a Dementia Friend can be found on the Alzheimers website.
