Hundreds of people flocked from far and wide to enjoy the Service’s Family Festival of Carols at Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday.

"As ever the Family Festival of Carols was a wonderful start to the Christmas period and was enjoyed by all who attended it. It is a truly magical evening where the meaning of Christmas is celebrated and embraced."

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford

The popular annual event marks the start of the festive period for many guests and this year more people than ever attended. They were treated to a nativity play, which featured local children, and the Lichfield Cathedral Chamber Choir performed.

Vice-Dean and Canon Dr Anthony Moore presided over the service and there were mince pies, tea and coffee afterwards.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said: "As ever the Family Festival of Carols was a wonderful start to the Christmas period and was enjoyed by all who attended it. It is a truly magical evening where the meaning of Christmas is celebrated and embraced. There was a lovely mixture of ages, from tiny babies to grandparents, which created a family atmosphere."
