"Re-engagement" of employees

I am seeking information regarding the "re-engagement" of employees of your fire service following retirement.

I would be grateful if you could let me know how many employees have retired and then been "re-engaged"/employed again by the service within the last five financial years.

In each case please provide the following details:

1. Their name if they are or were a senior officer
2. Their job title of they are or were a senior officer, or else their department/employee group
3. The date of their retirement
4. Their salary at retirement
5. The lump sum paid to them at retirement
6. The start date of their new role
7. The job title of their new role
8. Their salary in their new role


In response to your request for information we are unable to provide the information you have requested under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act.  Section 40(2) provides an exemption when the requester is asking for someone else’s personal data – in this case personal data relating to the public authority’s employees.  To release the information would be unfair due to the number of employees ‘re-engaged’ or ‘employed again’ within the last five financial years being of such a small number. We consider that providing information such as retirement dates, salary details and new job roles would identify individuals and therefore constitutes personal data.
