Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Service supports Register My Appliance Day

20/01/2016

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is adding its voice to support ‘Register My Appliance Day’ which takes place tomorrow (January 21).

“Registering an appliance is a simple preventative step people can take to obtain key information about a product and diminish the risk of fire in their home, safeguarding themselves and their family.”

Community Safety Lead James Russell

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the role that registering appliances plays in keeping consumers up to date with vital product information.

According to the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) thousands of consumers are missing out on product safety warnings as they fail to register appliances such as fridges, freezers and washing machines.

A YouGov survey for AMDEA found that just over a third of consumers currently register all of their appliances with the manufacturer leaving thousands of owners untraceable if a safety repair is needed.

Community Safety Lead James Russell said: “Registering domestic appliances takes a short amount of time and effort but could reduce the risk of a fire in your home.

“If consumers have not registered their details with manufacturers, then they will be untraceable should a safety repair be needed.

“Registering an appliance is a simple preventative step people can take to obtain key information about a product and diminish the risk of fire in their home, safeguarding themselves and their family.”
