Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Kick-start the Easter holidays with football sessions

17/03/2016

Young people in Stoke-on-Trent can kick-start the Easter holidays with a series of fun filled activities.

“It is always difficult to find entertaining activities for young people to do during the school holidays. The sessions are completely free and are a great way to keep boredom at bay. They offer youngsters the opportunity to learn a skill, make new friends and enjoy some exercise."

Donna Broadhead, Prevention Manager for the north of the county

Stoke City’s Premier League Kicks project, in partnership with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, is running free football sessions for young people aged between12-19 from March 29 - April 1 and April 4 - April 8.

Sessions will be delivered each day and are open to both boys and girls. The schemes are part of a series of events that the Service is running throughout
the Easter holidays in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.

They form part of the successful Flames Aren’t Games initiative which aims to   discourage young people from deliberately setting grass fires.

Donna Broadhead, Prevention Manager for the north of the county, said: “It is always difficult to find entertaining activities for young people to do during the school holidays. The sessions are completely free and are a great way to keep boredom at bay. They offer youngsters the opportunity to learn a skill, make new friends and enjoy some exercise.

“They also benefit the wider community as in previous years they have seen incidents of low level anti-social behaviour decrease. “

Ben Gibson at Stoke City Premier League added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Staffordshire Fire & Rescue again this Easter by delivering positive activity to young people across the City whilst promoting the importance of the Games not Flames initiative.”

The first series of sessions will be held from March 29 - April 1 at:
Tunstall Park from 4 - 5pm
Norton Sports Court from 5.30 - 6.30pm
