A sprinkler seminar held last week has proved a success with more than 80 delegates attending.

“The conference was thought provoking and the feedback we’ve had from delegates suggests that the increased use of sprinklers is something they will consider within their own organisations and when planning major refurbishments and future building projects."

The conference was hosted by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and organised by the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA). It addressed delegates about the need for increased use of sprinkler systems to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries.

Architects, housing associations, local authority building control officers and building inspectors were amongst the groups of people who attended the event which was held at The Moat House, Acton Trussell, in Stafford, on Thursday, March 17.

Speakers at the event included Steve Mills, BAFSA Fire and Rescue Service Coordinator, Ritchie O’Connell, BAFSA Technical Adviser for Wales, John Berrisford, SFRS Business Support Manager, and Stuart Ruckledge, SFRS Fire Engineer.

Fire Engineer Stuart Ruckledge said: “The conference was thought provoking and the feedback we’ve had from delegates suggests that the increased use of sprinklers is something they will consider within their own organisations and when planning major refurbishments and future building projects.

“The conference has highlighted the benefits afforded by sprinklers to the economy, the environment and to the lives of individuals.

“An ageing population, more independent living and an increase in social vulnerability makes this more important now than ever.”
