Firefighters still battling Milton plastics fire

Crews from Hanley, Newcastle and Longton, along with an aerial ladder platform, continued to tackle the fire at Milton in Stoke-On-Trent today, February 6, and the incident is expected to continue for the next few days.

“Firefighters have continued to extinguish the fire externally and there are currently three pumps and one aerial ladder platform in use.

“As the structure of the building is compromised given the roof collapse yesterday it is unsafe for crews to enter the building and so we will continue to tackle the incident from the outside."

Firefighters are still surrounding the building and are tackling the incident from the outside and above using the aerial ladder platform. The fire is contained to the material inside the building and not the structure of the building.

Group Manager Brian Moss said: “Firefighters have continued to extinguish the fire externally and there are currently three pumps and one aerial ladder platform in use.

“As the structure of the building is compromised given the roof collapse yesterday it is unsafe for crews to enter the building and so we will continue to tackle the incident from the outside.

“We are working closely with our colleagues at the Environmental Agency and are currently recycling water to use at the incident in order to prevent any harm to the environment.

“Firefighting is going to continue through the night and into the morning. A fire investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.”
