A person has been rescued from a vehicle after a serious road traffic collision in Staffordshire.

Crews were called to the southbound carriageway of the M6, between junction 15 (Stoke south) and 14 (Stafford north), just after 4.25am today, Wednesday May 24.

Crews attended from Longton and Stone. The collision involved a lorry and a car. One person, who was critically injured, was extricated from the car and taken to Royal Stoke Hospital by ambulance.

Sadly, five people died as a result of the collision and the M6 remains closed while a police investigation takes place.
