Sprinkler conference is raving success

26/5/2017

A sprinkler conference hosted by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has proved a raging success as dozens heard about the benefits from those who have already installed them.

“We really want to stress the benefits of having the sprinklers in places where people sleep; so high rise flats, care homes, bed sits etc as they are at a greater risk of the effects of smoke as they don’t tend to wake up during a fire.”

Fire Engineer and Fire Suppression Lead Stuart Ruckledge

The Service held the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association’s event at the Branston Golf and Conference Centre on Thursday (May 26) with seven speakers who shared their experiences of fitting the sprinklers in their properties.

Fire Engineer and Fire Suppression Lead Stuart Ruckledge opened the conference and was glad to see more than 70 representatives there to hear from Bromford Housing Group, Bupa, UK Derby Homes and Stoke-On-Trent City Council.

He said: “It was great to see how well received the conference was and what an impact it had on all those attending. It also gave us a chance to hear even more of the success stories.

“We really want to stress the benefits of having the sprinklers in places where people sleep; so high rise flats, care homes, bed sits etc as they are at a greater risk of the effects of smoke as they don’t tend to wake up during a fire.”

The demonstration was a favourite among the representatives who got the opportunity see the sprinklers in action.

Stuart added: “Everyone seemed to be impressed by the demonstration and we have already had some of the representatives showing an interest in getting the sprinklers installed.

“If a property has a sprinkler system it reduces the amount of damage is caused and more importantly lowers the chances of lives being lost.”
