Young Firefighters Step Out for Charity

Two members of the Stone Young Firefighters club prepare for action

Student firefighters will be stepping out for charity this Halloween.

Youngsters attending the Stone Firefighters Club are taking part in a fundraising walk on October 31.

The group will trek an 8.1 mile route from Stafford to Stone - along Beaconside and the A34 - to boost The Fire Fighters Charity and top up their own club coffers.

"What we're aiming for is to create an identity within the town"

Firefighter Jamie Richards

Firefighter Jamie Richards runs the Stone Firefighters Club.

He said: "As well as raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity this event will give club members the chance to raise the profile of the club."

"What we're aiming for is to create an identity within the town so that during events like the Stone Festival the club is recognised as part of the community, and one which makes a valuable contribution towards it."

In recent times Stone Firefighters Club has raised more than £400 for the Firefighters Charity. With 16 student firefighters aged between 12 and 16, and four instructors, the club meets every Friday at Stone Fire Station on Stafford Close.
