Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

House Fire in Porthill

A call was received this morning at 3.37am reporting a fire at a property on Watlands view in Porthill.

Fire and rescue crews from Hanley, Burslem and Newcastle attended the incident which involved a fire in a first floor front bedroom of a terraced house.

One female was inside the property at the time of the fire; she was given fire survival advice by a control operator from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service until Firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued the lady. Firefighters used one hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

Station Manager Dale Harrison said: Fortunately this property was fitted with working smoke alarms that alerted the lady to the fire, giving her time to call the fire service. The situation may have been far more serious had the property not been fitted working smoke alarms.

The fire caused smoke damage to the property. The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.
