Staffordshire Fire and Rescue have welcomed 14 new firefighters to the Service.
The team of new recruits were recognised at a Celebration of Success by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Services Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford and Chairman of Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority Len Bloomer.
All the firefighters have passed the new three week phase one of the Firefighter Development programme. They have studied five modules acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding in Core Skills, Breathing Apparatus, Hazardous Materials, Diversity, and Road Traffic Collisions.
They also participated in a two day structured programme of assessed scenarios in order to test out all they had learned. All of the new firefighters will now join their stations and after serving six months they will start their NVQ, this training will be provided by their coaches, mentors and specialist trainers in the workplace. The completion of a personal development record and programme signals the completion of the main phase of firefighter training and development.
During the evening of celebration, the new firefighters, their families and friends viewed a DVD which demonstrated the range and depth of what they had studied over the nine week course.
