Man Dies After Car Hits Tree

A 19-year-old man has died after the car he was in collided with a tree on the Southbound carriageway of the A500 in Stoke.

A total of 15 firefighters, including crews from Hanley, Newcastle and Longton attended the incident near Shelton New Road at 3.06am on Saturday.

"It was difficult for the firefighters, the car was in a mess. It’s always tragic when a young life is lost."

A second man had to be cut free from the wreckage of the Fiat Coupe.

Assistant Area Commander, Mick Daniels, was Tactical Adviser at the scene for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

He said: "Crews assisted the ambulance service to remove the fatally injured man before using a hydraulic drill to cut off the roof of the car in order to access the injured second man."

The injured man is currently in a stable condition at Staffordshire University Hospital.
