Man rescued from canal

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident on Peelers Way in Kettlebrook, Tamworth at 11.40pm last night.

Crews from Lichfield and Tamworth, including the water rescue unit, attended the incident which involved one vehicle which had left the carriage way, causing it to crash into the canal.

Station Manager Dermot Hogan said, "Crews rescued one male from the canal using the short extension ladder to lead him to safety. He was then given first aid treatment by firefighters and transported to hospital via land ambulance. Firefighters then entered the water in dry suits where they searched for further casualties."

The incident closed just after 2am.
