Fire Destroys Garage

Fire swept through a garage stacked with household items near a Stafford housing estate.

Two appliances from Stafford were called to a burning wheelie bin in an alleyway between Faraday Street and Corporation Street at 4.56am today.

"Wheelie bins can be easy targets."

Neil Burton, Station Manager

While dealing with the blaze firefighters noticed a second bin on fire further along the path.

Station Manager, Neil Burton, said: "It appears someone has deliberately set fire to a wheelie bin in the alleyway at the back of the houses.

"The fire has then spread to the garage which has set alight. The garage was full of household items, tools, furniture.

"While tackling this fire, crews noticed a second bin alight further along the path."

In the wake of this morning's incident Neil is urging people to keep their rubbish out of sight.

"I would urge residents not leave their wheelie bins out overnight, instead put them out first thing on the day of collection," he said.

"Wheelie bins can be easy targets."

The incident closed at 6.45am.
