Rugeley firefighter Matt Greensill has donned his running shoes and is in tough training for the London Marathon 2010!
Firefighter Greensill, aged 33 from Rugeley, is running the marathon in an attempt to raise as much money possible for the Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. All of the money raised will go specifically to the Robert Jones and Agnus Hunt Institute of orthopaedic research which is based within the hospital.
Matt is currently training hard and is hitting the roads four times a week in preparation for the race which is due to take place on 25th April.
"I chose this charity in particular as it’s such as unique organisation - the orthopaedic research centre is known worldwide as a centre of excellence so it’s great to be able to give something back."
Firefighter, Matt Greensill
Matt continued, "This is the first time I have tackled any kind of long distance running so it’s huge personal challenge for myself. I have had to change my diet entirely and it can be hard to fit the training in around my shifts as a firefighter especially as I am on call during the night. However I’m determined to raise as much money possible and I hope people in the local community will want to support me too."
